We are in a fast-paced era due to technological advancement and most of us want to acquire a skill almost immediately. Understand that there is a time factor to everything but you can choose to accelerate it.
1. Check if your process of training is relevant to the skill you want to acquire.
An example of a trading-targeted-training is our SSF’s trading library. This was built so me and my students can practice journaling. It personally benefits the writer on the habit of dissecting their own trade plus the SSF community can access these trades for their own case studies, its also another form of backtesting as it becomes a collective library of traders who have the same line of thinking so its easier to grasp. Our process of backtesting is not via trial and error, its just to recognize formulation of patterns.
2. Always question the objective of the process then identify and segregate which processes you need to spend the most time on.
Don’t fall to the trap that you need to do EVERYTHING there is in trading to get good or great because in reality, you only need a handful. What you want to do here is reflect on all of the tasks you are doing and identify the objective for each task, ask yourself these guiding questions:
a. What are the risks of not doing this task?
b. If I do this [insert task/skill], what is the potential reward? Outweigh A and B
c. How much time do I need to spend on this task?
You might get more productive once you reflect on these tips, you can possibly eliminate the unnecessary so you can focus on the necessary.
Quick Note: I’m thoroughly impressed by my students as they are quick to grasp the concepts and consistently execute the trades better each time. We’re not aiming for perfect execution rather, we’re aiming for refinement on every trade we put on.
I teach a simple process and avoid complication so the students have smooth transition from theory to application. I hate complicated processes, I hate confusing my students, I love when a process is simple to execute because that means that students generally may rapidly replicate how I trade.
